Rust Accelerator for Corten & Ferrous Metals

Achieve an authentic weathered steel finish in hours, not weeks.
This Rust Accelerator is engineered for users seeking to accelerate and control the oxidation process on Corten, iron, crude steel, and other ferrous surfaces.

This non-hazardous solution delivers a high quality rust patina while eliminating the usual risks and mess associated with traditional methods.

Ideal for planters, architectural elements, fountains, or sculptures, this formula creates a deep, natural rust tone that matures over time into the warm, rich patina characteristic of well-aged steel, without compromising safety or surface integrity.

Note:
Using the Rust Accelerator may cause rust runoff, which can stain patios and surrounding surfaces.
To help prevent staining, it’s recommended to leave a small 10 mm gap between your Corten steel product and the patio surface. This allows the runoff to drain into the gap rather than onto visible or important areas.

You may also choose to place your Corten Steel Planter on a drip tray (ensure the tray allows water to drain safely without causing issues) or on a protective, replaceable surface such as gravel or a temporary slab. This setup protects surrounding areas during the weathering process. Just make sure any runoff stays contained on the protective layer and cannot escape onto nearby surfaces.

Key Benefits
• Oxidation Within the Hour: Rapid surface transformation begins within 30 minutes of application.
• No Compromises: Produces a durable, non-powdery patina that adheres evenly across the surface.
• Safe to use and handle, no risk of burns or toxic vapours.
• Cost-Effective Coverage: Up to 10 m² per litre, maximising value for larger installations.
• No Stabilizers Required: Surface rust formation is self-limiting, no need for separate corrosion inhibitors.

Application Instructions
1. Shake well to re-suspend any settled particles at the bottom of the bottle.
2. Apply using the sprayer, then brush or roller lightly. The coating must cover the surface uniformly, avoid drips or puddles.
3. After 2 hours, you may mist with water or reapply the accelerator to deepen the effect. Humid conditions and temperatures above 15°C promote optimal results.
4. Allow the metal to naturally oxidize over the next 14 days. The colour will shift gradually from bright orange to a deeper, more stable rust tone.
